The Beverly Hills facelift is one of the most popular surgical procedures because it addresses the common signs of facial aging – sagging skin, lines, and wrinkles.
There are several facelifts, and your board-certified plastic surgeon will help you decide which is the best option for your aesthetic goals.
Facelift Overview
A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, makes your face look refreshed and younger by pulling the skin and deeper tissues higher, removing extra skin, and tightening the skin left for a smoother look.
Facelift surgery can fix deep folds, jowls, wrinkles, and fine lines that remind us that we’re getting older.
A facelift also can reposition the facial volume to a higher position and reduce the amount of loose skin on the lower face and neck.
This procedure also works well with a Beverly Hills eyelid lift, which removes and tightens sagging skin on the upper eyelids to make your eyes wider and more alert looking.
Some patients also opt for a Beverly Hills rhinoplasty during their facelift to have a smaller or more aesthetically pleasing nose.
Popular Facelift Options
There are three major types of facelifts your surgeon will discuss with you:
SMAS Facelift
The superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) is the layer of tissue that divides the superficial adipose layer from the deeper tissues in your face. This is a fibrous tissue network that links the facial muscles to the dermis skin layer.
The SMAS transmits and amplifies the muscle movements below the skin and facilitates our ability to make facial movements and expressions. And over time, the SMAS tends to sag and become weaker, which gives our faces those lines and wrinkles.
The SMAS facelift tightens these tissues and makes them elastic again, especially in the lower part of the face.
Your surgeon dissects this layer from the other skin and tissue layers during the procedure and pulls it higher without affecting the skin.
After the SMAS layer is lifted, it’s sutured, and extra skin is removed. This facelift method lifts the underlying tissues, not the skin, so you will have a natural-looking lift without making the face look frozen or surprised.
Deep Plane Facelift
Patients who have signs of aging in the lower part of the face usually are helped by a SMAS facelift. But if you have aging higher in the face or are younger, you may consider a deep plane facelift.
The deep plane technique also lifts and tightens the facial tissues, but it does it differently. The SMAS method dissects the SMAS tissue from the skin and elevates it separately.
The deep plane facelift keeps the skin and SMAS together and are lifted together in the deep plane lower tissues.
This method protects and preserves the deeper facial structures while lifting the lower part of the face, including the upper neck and cheeks.
This procedure is becoming more popular because it offers significant rejuvenation without incisions or skin tightness of a traditional facelift.
Endoscopic Facelift
This procedure also is becoming more popular because it can tighten facial tissues without scarring, bruising, and bleeding. And because it’s less invasive, the recovery process is shorter, too.
This facelift uses small incisions and an endoscope to tighten the deeper facial layers without major incisions and scarring.
With small incisions in the scalp, the deep facial layers are lifted to make the face smoother and tighter.
This procedure works well for patients with a moderate amount of sagging, but it won’t work for those with significant skin laxity in the face.
How Long Does A Facelift Last?
Any surgical facelift offers results that should last for years. But it’s important to remember that no facelift will prevent the face from aging.
While the skin and deeper facial layers will be tighter than if you hadn’t had a facelift, you will have more skin laxity as you age.
Other Non Surgical Facelift Options
A surgical facelift is required to make the most extensive and long-term changes to your face by lifting the skin and other facial tissues. But if you want to make tweaks to your appearance, there are several alternatives to a traditional facelift:
Facial Fillers
Dermal fillers can make temporary changes to your face by adding volume to the cheeks or jawline to give it a younger appearance.
One of the most effective Beverly Hills injectables used today is Juvederm, which restores volume and smoothes wrinkles and lines. This filler is particularly effective for filling in smile lines and nasolabial folds. Juvederm also can be used to plump the lips.
To maintain your appearance, you will need to touch up your dermal filler injections every six to 12 months.
Fat Transfer
Fat transfer involves removing fat from the belly, sides, or thighs with Beverly Hills liposuction and injecting it into facial lines and wrinkles to give you a plumper, younger look.
The advantage of fat transfer is it’s natural, and the results last for years. You also are removing fat from a part of your body that’s resistant to diet and exercise, so it’s a win-win.
Microneedling
Microneedling, also called collagen induction, is a non-surgical skin rejuvenation method that punctures the skin with tiny needles.
When this happens, it triggers your body’s wound healing processes. This causes new skin to grow and for the body to produce more elastin and collagen, which makes the skin look younger.
A facelift can provide a younger, more refreshed appearance that skincare products and non-surgical methods cannot offer. In addition, if you have significant skin laxity and drooping in the face, a facelift could be what you need.
