Everyone loves some good makeover before and after photos. It’s fun to see the transformations that can take place with even a few small changes to a person’s hair, clothing, etc.
But what about more serious changes?
As a result of recent advancements in plastic surgery, surgeons are now able to completely transform a person’s body in a matter of months. The before and after results can be incredible. For example, women who have had one or more children can actually reverse many of the effects of pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding — essentially returning them to their pre-baby bodies in many cases.
This procedure is called a mommy makeover surgery, and the results can be absolutely spectacular.
If you’ve been thinking about a mommy makeover for yourself, this article is for you. In it, we’ll go over what to expect for your mommy makeover before and after the surgery.
What to Expect: Mommy Makeover Before and After
Before we go any further, let’s first answer the question: What is typically included in a mommy makeover?
While every procedure is different, the majority of mommy makeovers include a breast surgery (either a breast lift, breast augmentation, or a combination of the two), liposuction, and a tummy tuck. In some cases, a patient may only want one or two of these procedures. But especially when a breast surgery is combined with liposuction and/or a tummy tuck, most surgeons will refer to this type of surgery as a mommy makeover.
Incidentally, mommy makeovers aren’t for mothers alone. Many “mommy makeover” patients are simply women who’ve lost a lot of weight and want to remove excess skin and fat and improve the appearance of their breasts.
Before Mommy Makeover Surgery
The first step toward a mommy makeover is booking a consultation appointment. Dr. Lahar will need to meet with you to assess whether you’ll be a good candidate for surgery. He’ll give you a short physical exam and go over your medical records as well.
Once you’re cleared for surgery and you and Dr. Lahar have decided on an approach to the procedure you’re happy with, he may give you additional guidelines. These may include doing things like getting additional medical tests, altering certain medications before the surgery date, specifying someone who can take you home after the procedure, and stopping drinking and smoking.
After Mommy Makeover Surgery
After surgery, it’s important to rest and stay home from work for at least one to two weeks. Having help with home chores, taking care of your kids, grocery shopping, and getting to and from appointments is ideal.
You’ll need to wear compression garments and change the way you move and sleep for several weeks as well. Pain medications and other home care measures can assist with any discomfort. It’s normal to experience swelling, bruising, and soreness. These symptoms will slowly go away. Your full results from mommy makeover surgery should be visible within six months, but sometimes, it can take longer for all of the swelling to go down.
So, is a mommy makeover worth it?
The answer is it is if you want it to be.
Certainly, not every mom will be interested in a surgery like this one. But if you have been long-lamenting the loss of some of your physical features after having children or losing weight (sagging breasts, loose abdominal skin, seemingly unbudgeable fat, etc.), a mommy makeover surgery could be just what you’ve been looking for.
